bio
Born in
1959 in the Los Angeles area, he now resides in Joshua Tree California.
Steven is Native American Indian & Mexican Decent from Southern
California, Steven Ruiz has been interested in art as long as he can remember.
He was raised within a family of artists, including musicians and
painters. As a child he spent time in his uncle's studio, the Artist
Alfred Flores 1913-1997, who was an oil painter for over 40 years. |

Steven remembers sensing the full rich smell of oils,
the buttery texture on his fingers--- he was hooked. Money was tight in
the Ruiz family, being one of six children. He would get his oils anyway
he could. One way was taking discarded tubes from his uncle's trash can
and squeezing every drop. This turned out to be a blessing to him as it
taught him how to mix a rainbow of colors out of the three primary
colors: blue , yellow and red.
As we fast-forward to his early thirties, the love of
music and the outdoors became his passion, so it was only natural to
step outside and paint what was in his heart. Many have acquired Steven
Ruiz's Landscapes, Music paintings and Wood sculptures, including
corporate and private collections as well as having a Permanent display
in a museum. |
He has been featured in catalogs and many
newspaper articles.
With many exhibitions under his belt including a recent
"one man show" at the Latino Art Museum in Pomona Ca, and a
group show in Monterey Ca. at the Lisa Cosino Gallery in June
2007. Steven feels he has found his niche here in Joshua Tree along with
his wife, painter Cori Griffin -Ruiz and their Daughter Sienna Rain
Ruiz. He has discovered the many moods of the desert from the deep blue
skies to the sounds of thunder and smell of rain, the inspiration is
endless. Steven Ruiz is like a kid again in his Uncle's studio- except
now it is his Uncles spirit, which lives on in Steven's own studio
located in Joshua Tree California |
